Listening to component sets is much like listening to Guitar amps, we all have our preferences in what sounds good to each person. One set is not subjectively better than another as much as they are perceived better if they enhance the spectrum you like. There can and will be some inherent deficiencies based on cost cutting that might be forced upon a set to hit a specific price point.
As comp sets get more expensive, materials and motor designs come available that can cover a wider frequency band with more accurate response. The comp sets can be designed to be more neutral which lets the user tune in the sonic character they prefer, rather than have to equalize out trouble spots.
It was with this mind set that we went about putting together a comp set for our customers. Having the major benefit of selling direct to our customers really becomes huge in this area since we could allocate more upfront cost toward higher performing parts, tighter machining tolerances and detail-oriented engineering. We were able to work with German engineers to design and build a great sounding component set, and offer a truly affordable price to our enthusiasts.
The 6.5” midwoofer features a coated, felted cone engineered for smooth midrange and detailed vocals. The lower suspension is made from long wearing polyester and cotton blended into a stable and controlled spider while the upper suspension includes a high-compliance rubber surround controlling upper-frequency anomalies.
The aluminum coil former is wound with subwoofer-grade, high-temperature coil wire and adhesives. The coil sits in a precision magnetic gap which when combined with the suspension detailed above, yield an optimized driver for tight acoustic control.
The 25mm fabric-dome tweeter is a result of many years of continued research and refinement, the diaphragm alone going through 100s of hours of acoustic testing and geometry changes. The end goal, after all the attention to detail is to lose your self in the music; to forget there is a tweeter playing and enjoy the effortlessness of the sound.
The crossover is built with low DCR coils, film caps and sturdy copper boards. The filter values were decided on after hours of playback time, not numbers crunched from a program.
The AQG-6.5 comp set is more than a great audio bargain, it’s a great component set that you’ll enjoy turning on when you hit the road. Having great sounds like the AQG-6.5 is the difference from having to drive and wanting to drive.
